Evaporation of volatile droplets subjected to flame-like conditions

This work assesses Lagrangian droplet evaporation models frequently used in spray combustion simulations, with the purpose of identifying influence modeling decisions on single behavior. Besides more simplistic models, evaluated strategies include a simple method to incorporate Stefan flow effects heat transfer (Bird’s correction), consider interaction and mass films (Abramzon–Sirignano model), non-equilibrium thermodynamics (Langmuir–Knudsen model). The importance each phenomena is quantified analytically numerically under various conditions. Evaporation ignoring are found be invalid studied Langmuir–Knudsen model also deemed inadequate for high temperature evaporation, while Bird’s correction Abramzon–Sirignano identified as most relevant numerical studies systems. Latter elaborate here, it considers Reynolds number beyond empirical correlation Ranz Marshall derived low-transfer rates. Thus, state art alternative scope this study.
